Developmental Resource Program MS & HS

Hockinson High School Developmental Resource Program

The Hockinson High School Developmental Resource program is situated within a centrally located classroom on the Hockinson High School campus. Our classroom consists of a fully equipped kitchen, laundry space, private restroom, therapy room, computer center and academic learning areas. The Developmental Resource program is led by one certified special education teacher and a team of highly qualified paraprofessionals. Our team serves a wide range of learners and is dedicated to focusing on the individual needs of students.

Students enrolled in the Developmental Resource program engage in instruction that promotes overall independence and includes skill building in the areas of functional academics, career exploration, and activities of daily living. Involvement within general education settings remains a high priority and is determined based on individual student needs. Our classroom maintains a solid Peer Tutor program that encourages relationship building with same age peer groups within both self-contained and general education settings.

Transition planning is an essential component in the Developmental Resource program and students consistently engage in school and community based work experiences with the supervision of a Job Coach/Para educator. Freshman and sophomores’ participate in school-based learning opportunities within the HHS campus and once preliminary employment skills have been established, juniors and seniors’ extend their learning to community sites.

Hockinson Middle School Developmental Resource Program

The Hockinson Middle School Developmental Resource program serves students sixth through eighth grades. Our main classroom is based at the Hockinson High School campus and is led by a certified special education teacher and a staff of highly qualified paraprofessionals. The Middle School Developmental Resource program teaches a wide range of learners and programs are individualized based on student need.

Middle school students attend our program during the morning portion of their school day. Instruction is focused on core academics and functional skill building. Our class maintains a strong Peer Tutor program that includes high school students seeking leadership opportunities and embraces the development of essential social skills through peer interactions. Students are transported to the Hockinson Middle School campus at mid-day to join their same age peers for lunch and recess periods as well as general education classes.
