Learning Support Classroom MS

At Hockinson Middle School's learning support classroom, there are three daily expectations that students must fulfill: success, choice, and challenge.   Success is determined on an individual level, but the expectation is non-negotiable.  Students are given learning choices to guide and empower independent voice in their own learning.  Lastly, students will be challenged each and every day to create evidence of learning.  These basic tenets connect with general education core class learning targets and assessments.  As a result, students are connected with the learning expectations of all Hockinson Middle School students.

In our learning support classes the learning focus will be reading, writing, math, and/or study skills.  Learning goals incorporate the Common Core State Standards and Hockinson Middle School's standards based reporting system.  This approach to instruction and regular, consistent feedback through formative assessment strengthens student learning in all learning environments.  To more cohesively introduce this methodology into Hockinson Middle School, the special education resource classroom has predominantly been divided into two subjects; the first providing mathematic support, the second literacy support.  Both classes will also offer provide necessary study skill development.

Our philosophy stems from a passion for providing our students with a more creative, interactive, and individualized approach to learning.  Our staff is committed to helping all students meet their academic and positive behavioral potential.  We want to model "Honor, Motivation, & Safe/Secure" to all students each and every day!!
