HHS ASB logs successful year despite pandemic challenges

HHS ASB Officers

The students who make up Hockinson High School's Associated Student Body (ASB) are integral in creating and maintaining a positive school culture where all of their peers feel welcomed and want to be involved. The leadership class has been a tradition at HHS ever since the school opened, and elections are held every May for students to vote on the ASB officers for the next school year. Typical duties of student leadership officers include planning assemblies, dances, spirit days, clothing/toy drives, the annual Color War, and the canned food drive in the fall; as well as publicizing their classmates’ achievements and organizing fundraisers to support school sports and activities.

Although the 2020-21 school year presented numerous challenges for the ASB, the student leadership team was able to overcome them and pull off several events, such as planning a very successful canned food drive and Prom night. Students and staff alike are looking forward to next year, when the ASB can once again demonstrate their organizational, management, and communication skills to continue creating a positive and inclusive culture for everyone at HHS.

More than 40 students have already signed up as ASB officers for the 2021-22 school year, and they are eager to get to work and start making plans now. Other leadership positions that are still open will be filled in the fall after classes resume.
