HMS Student Organizes Career Fair to Connect Students with Future Possibilities

Graysen Aldridge, Student Organizer of HMS Career Fair

Graysen Aldridge, an 8th grade student at Hockinson Middle School, worked with school counselor Nicole Schneider to organize the Hockinson Middle School Career Fair held on March 13. The pair amassed over 50 professionals within the Hockinson community to present their respective career paths at the fair.

The fair was open to all Hockinson School District families and had representatives from 41 diverse career fields. Students gained an inside perspective into the professional lives of pilots, chefs, electrical engineers, and video game designers, just to name a few.

Aldridge took the initiative to create the career fair as her Girl Scouts' community service project. Hockinson Middle School Principal Meredith Gannon was impressed with Aldridge's sense of student leadership and the outpouring of community support that made this large- scale event possible. "This was just an incredible event. Kudos to Graysen and to everyone involved. It really created a real-world context for our students and how what they are learning today can apply to where they want to go. Our three schools are working hard to create experiences K-12 so our students can explore and prepare for a career launch after graduation," said Gannon.
