After School Adventures
After School Adventures (ASA) is a gap care program provided by Hockinson Community Education that services children attending Hockinson Heights Elementary School. Students from Transition to Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in the program on regular attendance days Monday through Friday. The hours of operation are after school from 2:30 - 6:00 pm (Wednesdays beginning at 1:30 pm due to the one hour early release). Students are bussed down from the Elementary school to the Community Center building. Our two classroom spaces offer a multitude of play opportunities including dramatic play, sensory centers, home center, libraries, construction and manipulative center, art center, and gym play to name a few.
ASA has limited openings (Wednesdays are FULL) for the 2024-2025 school year!

ASA FAQ’s
What is your staffing ratio and who are the staff?
Our program has a 15:1 student to staff ratio. Our staff are Community Education employees who have a passion to work with students. To learn more about our wonderful staff, please see our staff bio section of our webpage!
How much is tuition?
A Sibling Discount of $380 is offered for Monthly enrolled students
Do you provide care when school is canceled or on non-attendance school days?
ASA is follows the Hockinson School District calendar and its closures. In the event inclement weather is involved, ASA will close along with the rest of the District’s buildings. For non school attendance days, that are not federal holidays (ie. winter/spring break, teacher in service days, and semester breaks), Hockinson Community Education will open a special registration form for ASA registered students to sign up for Day Camp.
Do the children have an opportunity to have a snack at ASA?
Students are provided with a single serving afternoon snack.
Does the public have access to the Community Center building during hours of operation?
No, the Community Center building doors are always locked. This childcare facility only allows access to authorized adults when in operation. Outside of childcare operation hours, the building is occupied by various Community Education programs, classes, and public rentals.
What is the atmosphere like in your program?
The expectations of students are reflective of those they are accustomed to in their school setting. The harmony of ASA relies on the social and emotional regulation of our students with little redirection from staff members. ASA operates under 5 basic rules:
1. Keep hands, feet, body to yourself
2. Kind words only
3. Ask before leaving the room
4. Walking feet only
5. Respect the space and each other

Our Staff
Hi I’m Coleen Parthemer, Childcare Coordinator for After School Adventures. I started as an ASA staff/teacher in the 2014-2015 school year and am now the Childcare Coordinator for Community Education!
I grew up in Hockinson where I completed my K-12 education and even met my husband in elementary school; needless to say, this small town has a special place in my heart. Staying local, I furthered my education in Childhood Development and Psychology. Now I stay busy raising two (5 yrs & 3 yrs old) sweet kids.
Working with and walking alongside students in Hockinson is my passion. What an awesome community we get to call home!
Hi, my name is Sarah DeRoos! I am a current Senior at Hockinson; a few ways I have been involved in the school include soccer, tennis, and FBLA. I have been working with ASA since fall of 2023 and have a love for the kids and this job. The kids have taught me so much and have brought me so much joy throughout the year. I can't wait to spend this upcoming school year making memories with them!
Hello, my name is Liam O’Dell and I am currently a senior at HHS. I am involved in knowledge bowl and attended Cascadia Tech Academy’s fashion design program last year. Hello! My name is Julia Ritton, and I am so thrilled to be working at ASA this year and getting to spend time with your kids! I just graduated in June from Academy Northwest, although I was heavily involved in sports at HHS. I love being in my community and I have a lot of experience working with kids from staffing in youth groups, summer camps and babysitting. I am passionate about creativity, art, and learning as well as being a positive influence on people. This year will be so fun!
Greetings! I am Mrs. O’Malley and I've had the privilege to work for HSD for seven years. My employment here began as a substitute teacher. I've subbed at each of our schools but have spent the majority of my time at HHES. There are not many positions, grades or specialties at HHES I've not provided coverage for. I took on the position as the Community Education/Facility Use Coordinator in the fall of 2023.
I am a Pacific Northwest kid and grew up in North Vancouver. I went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Psychology. My family settled in Clark County in 2006 and we've been living in Hockinson for the past nine years.
My family includes my husband, our HHS graduate, our junior daughter, our dog and two cats. We love to hike and play games as a family!
