On May 9, the Hockinson High School Commons transformed into a salon-style gallery displaying carefully crafted sculptures, vibrant paintings, and other imaginative works from every grade level. The TK-12 Visual Arts Showcase once again allowed families and community members to celebrate the artistic talents of all Hockinson students, from the district’s youngest learners to graduating seniors.
This year’s exhibition featured artwork from approximately 200 students. Two Hockinson High School students who were recently honored at the 2025 ESD 112 Spring Art Show also had their award-winning pieces on display. Hockinson’s dedicated art educators organized the event: Sonja Einerson and Nancy O’Neill-Bratt from Hockinson Heights Elementary School, Lori-Ann Marano from Hockinson Middle School, and Tanya Hochhalter from Hockinson High School. Their continued collaboration has allowed this showcase to remain a beloved annual event in the district. Believe it or not, this tradition began before 2008, and the output is just as astounding. Hockinson Heights Elementary students alone create nearly 10,000 pieces of art every year!
The TK–12 Visual Arts Showcase embodies the HSD’s commitment to arts education. Supported by the local school levy approved in 2022, the district’s art program continues to provide meaningful opportunities for students to embrace their creativity and share their perspectives through visual media. Light refreshments were provided at no cost to the district thanks to a generous grant from the Washington Education Association’s Riverside group, one of the many ways the HSD seeks outside sources of funding to elevate the student experience.
