While the HHS Girls Swim Team consists of only five athletes, the larger cooperative (co-op) team that Hockinson hosts has attracted 38 members! This multi-school model gives the Hawks the opportunity match up against peers from LaCenter, Ridgefield, Washougal, and Seton Catholic on a daily basis.

According to Head Coach Michelle Jacobs-Brown, "while the Hockinson Girls Team may be small, they are mighty!" The HHS roster includes Ruby Cochenour (Sr), Sydney King (Jr), Cora Richardson (Jr), Georgina Romero (Sr) and Camila Romero (Fr).  Cochenour and (Georgina) Romero are team captains. "Everyone is ahead of their last years' time due to the hard work they have put in outside of the season," said Brown.

On Thursday, September 3, 2026 all five teams traveled to a neutral site at Mark Morris High School to participate in the Greater St. Helens Girls Swimming Jamboree, which was both a measuring stick against teams from all classifications and a preview of the 2A competition that lies ahead.

Top 3 performances turned in by the Lady Hawks Swimmers included:

  • Georgina Romero (13.582) and Camila Romero (14.28) finishing 1, 2 in the 25 m Freestyle;

  • Camila Romero (30.01) 2nd in the 50 m Butterfly; and

  • Cora Richardson (31.27) 2nd in the 50 m Backstroke.

Next up for the Hawks is the Sat. Sept. 12 Sprint Pentathlon followed by a meet against Columbia River on Wed. Sept. 16. Jacobs-Brown invites all Hawk Swim fans to fill the seats at our two home meets at Gold's Gym in Camas:

Wed, Sept. 30: Camas v. SWWA and
Wed. Oct. 14: SWWA v. Fort/Bay - HHS Senior Night!

Jacobs-Brown, who was named the 2025 1A/2A Coach of the Year by the Washington Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association, shares coaching responsibilities with two assistant coaches, Tony Kajino, Gordon Sievers, and one volunteer coach, Emily Larzalere.

The coaches all agree on two points: The co-op has has good prospects for qualifying for District and State competition and it will be a fun and fast season! Good luck to our swimmers. Go Hawks!
