Thursday's rain canceled what was supposed to be the HHS Boys Tennis season opener against Mtn. View High School. However, with drier weather forecasted for the second week of the season, the team could be looking at four matches in five days. How's that for a reversal of fortune?
In addition to the Mtn. View match (TBD), the team will face Evergreen away on Tuesday (9/8), Mark Morris at home on Wednesday (9/9) and Hudson's Bay away on Friday (9/11).
The Hawks have strength in numbers this season. After starting the program in 2024 with 14 players, this year's roster has grown to 22 players. Additionally, Head Coach Scott Fish is appreciative that the program has four outstanding volunteer assistant coaches, including Girls Head Coach Heather Watkins and 2026 graduate Jahlen Miller.
Because weather has hampered the ability of new players to show what they can do, Fish says that the team will head into the season behind a Varsity lineup led by Owen Heil, Simon Neve, and Gavin Matheson.
Fish reports that the Boys Team and the entire HHS Tennis Program is on the upswing thanks to the collaboration of the boys and girls coaches and a productive summer camp that helped to jump-start the boys season.
Good luck, Hawks - with the weather and in your upcoming matches.
