HHS water filter repaired.

HSD Operations staff collaborate whenever possible to keep our buildings looking their best and in working order. But today’s Facility Friday: Saturday Edition feature is another one-person success story and the protagonist is again HSD Operations Supervisor David Wilson. The antagonist is the usual “aging equipment” and, in this case, the Hockinson High School (HHS) staff and students are the ones who get to experience the happy ending.

While it recently added an additional water bottle filling station upstairs, HHS had two older stations downstairs; one is located near classrooms and the other is located in the activity and athletics hallway near the MPR and Gym. Between the two units, they had dispensed over 130,000 bottles of filtered water since 2018.

Recently, the filling stations began to show their age. The control boards in both stations failed, which caused them to malfunction and dispense unfiltered water or not work at all. So Dave rolled up his sleeves and … first watched tutorials on how to repair the stations on Youtube.  He then purchased two control boards for $400 and replaced them himself on March 10 - a job that would have cost well over $1,000 in labor if he had contracted it.

Fast forward to March 21, the units have already dispensed over 500 bottles’ worth of filtered water to students and community members. So this project not only saved money, it helped to save our environment by helping students avoid having to purchase/use bottled water.

Dave Wilson, along with our grounds and custodial staff, work tirelessly to maintain our campuses and protect the Hockinson community’s investment in our facilities. They could not do this work without the support of the Hockinson community; levy dollars are a critical resource that make these improvements possible.
