Strong Foundations, Soaring Futures
This school year, we're launching Strong Foundations, Soaring Futures, a districtwide initiative focused on helping every student succeed in school and beyond.

Building on Upward Together
Upward Together was our motto in 2022-25 to strengthen belonging, collaboration, and student support. Strong Foundations, Soaring Futures is our district’s next chapter, building on Upward Together by strengthening research-based teaching practices and family partnerships in three key areas: Classrooms, Community, and Communication.
Strong Foundations
Aligning Learning Across Classrooms
We are strengthening classroom practices across all Hockinson schools so every student benefits from high-quality instruction. Teachers will continue to use proven, research-based teaching practices and data to meet each student's needs and provide the right support at the right time.
“We recently updated our elementary reading program at Hockinson Heights to better match what research says about how kids learn to read. Up-to-date curriculum in each grade level builds on the last, so students don’t miss important steps,” said Jennifer Sawyer, HSD Director of Teaching & Learning.
Classroom approaches align with The Danielson Framework for Teaching, a research-based model to improve student learning.
Family Partnerships
Families are important partners in this work. Family feedback, communication, and involvement help us create the best possible learning experience for every child.
By communicating clearly with families about learning goals and student progress, we support every student's success.
Soaring Futures
Hockinson students develop academic and career-ready skills for success in college, careers, and life.
High School
Students hone their interests and prepare to launch college or career plans:
Students have access to College in the High School (CiHS), Career & Technical Education (CTE) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Students receive high quality career and course guidance from our College and Career Center staff.
All graduates are prepared to enroll, enlist, or enter the workforce as they launch their postsecondary futures.
