AED

Today’s Spotlight on HSD Facilities is a special crossover event! It’s a facility update, but it’s also a safety upgrade.

In an effort to better protect the health of our students, staff, and community members, the HSD has updated and expanded the presence of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in our schools and facilities. What is an AED? AEDs are medical devices used to treat sudden cardiac arrest, a life-threatening condition where the heart stops beating properly. These devices monitor the heart's rhythm and deliver an electric shock to help restore a normal rhythm. Since their invention, AEDs have saved countless lives around the world and locally - including a number of lives in Clark County schools.

As part of our district’s efforts to improve its safety plans, practices, and equipment, AEDs have been regularly inventoried and maintained. This fall, the number of AEDs were also increased from 9 to 13! Here is our current count and location of AEDs in Hockinson’s schools:

HHES (2): Commons and East Gym (both AEDs are equipped with child and adult pads)

HMS (4): Gym, Library, Cafeteria and 1 portable AED

HHS (5): Commons, Gym, Training Room, Field House, and 1 portable AED

HCC (2): Community Ed Lobby and Gym (pictured)

The HSD is committed to maintaining our community’s investment in Hockinson’s schools

and the safety of the people inside our schools. We would not be able to address either without the support of the Hockinson community; levy dollars are a critical resource that make these improvements possible.
