Football returned to Hockinson Middle School this season after a three-decade hiatus, and Evan Foerstner led the team in the huddle as its quarterback. Evan developed invaluable leadership, communication, and athletic skills as he guided the HMS team to a 5-1 record.

These lessons learned on the field will support his pursuit of stellar grades and his dream of playing college sports. More from Evan:
What did you enjoy most about being on the HMS Football team?
Being with all my friends and playing together. It was fun to represent Hockinson and play in the HHS stadium with so much support.
Why did you want to play quarterback, and what's the best part about it?
I've played my whole life and it's fun. The most challenging part about it is the decision-making. But it helps to impact the way I play other sports.
What are your favorite classes right now?
Weightlifting, because Mr. Vettrus is a good teacher and I get to work out and get stronger.
What do you look forward to most at school?
I like to learn and I like my teachers. My goal is to get straight As.
What has been your favorite school activity this far?
Football! It was pretty unbelievable to be part of the first football team in 30 years.
Have you thought about any plans for the future?
I'm going to try to go D1 [NCAA Division I] in baseball or football. I'm [aiming for] Ohio State, but I like Oregon State too, and they are local. At HHS, I'm planning on doing football, basketball and baseball.
HMS Principal Colpron had this to say about Evan: “Evan is an awesome kid! He has grit, determination and perseverance. He also never gives up. He took on a huge challenge this year and exceeded all of our expectations. We are really excited to watch him grow as a student athlete and will continue to cheer him on along the sidelines.”
Way to go, Evan and HMS Football! It was amazing to see so many HMS students take advantage of these opportunities in Football, Volleyball and Cross Country and find so much success this season.
Thank you, Hockinson community. Middle school athletics would not be possible without levy funding and support of local residents.
