The HSD has incredible neighbors. Our staff and students benefit from the support of residents to churches to Fire District 5 to nearby businesses like Hockinson Fuel and the Hockinson Market. Another group of neighbors is the blueberry farms that donate to, and participate in, the community's annual Blueberry Festival. Additionally, for the past six years, Majestic Farms has donated its end-of-season blueberries to the HSD's Nutrition Services program ... if volunteers pick them from its bushes.
No problem there.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, representatives from Chartwells Food Services were on hand to do just that - along with community volunteers and employees from HSD and area school districts.
HHES administrators (l to r) Colleen Rush, Meredith Gannon, and Michael Olson participated in gleaning event.
HHS Principal Tim Fox made it a family experience, picking blueberries with his daughters.
In the end, 350 lbs of blueberries were picked, destined for cafeterias in the Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Washougal and, of course, the Hockinson School Districts.
A big "Thank you" to Majestic Farms for it's ongoing and generous support of this unique farm-to-school program. This partnership provides delicious berries to HSD students at no cost, which enhances their school meals and supports both their education and overall health. Now that's a win-win-win-win!
