When the HHS Theatre Company takes the stage for its fall play, “One Stoplight Town,” audiences may find the setting a little familiar. The play opens with a brand new stoplight going up at the only intersection in a small town. As HHS Theatre teacher Stephanie Evans put it, “It would be like a stoplight being put in at 159th and 182nd.”
The play follows the town over 25 to 30 years as its residents get older, fall in love, leave home for the first time, and watch their children grow up. Evans chose this show because it focuses on the small moments in life that so many people experience.
The production remains faithful to the original storyline, and each scene is led by a student director. The eight student directors, working solo or in pairs, also assisted with casting and shaping the show's vision. In all, 74 HHS and HMS students are behind the production, including about 40 cast members and about 25 crew members.
There are six leads in the show that appear in many scenes. Our senior leads are Kieran Harwood (Tom), Sydney Aldridge (Barb), and Caleb Carter (Jim), and our younger leads are Lucy Lyon (Clara), Matthew (Melvin), and Ivy Young (Sally).
“One Stoplight Town” runs four performances: 7 p.m. shows on October 22, 23, and 24, and a 2 p.m. show on October 24. Theatergoers can purchase tickets on-site or online here.
