Hockinson High School student Karina Onofrey is receiving national recognition after helping her team earn the Award of Excellence in the international SchoolsNEXT Design Competition. Onofrey and three other Clark County students will be honored at the 2026 LearningSCAPES National Conference in Seattle, November 4-7, where they will present their award-winning project to industry professionals.
Through LSW Architects’ Design CoMission internship program, Onofrey collaborated with students from Union, Cornerstone Christian and Skyview high schools to design the Ridgefield Agricultural School. Their concept combines agricultural education with nature-inspired architecture, featuring buildings and learning spaces influenced by the surrounding creek and ecosystem.
The team earned the Award of Excellence, the competition’s highest honor, with guidance from professional architects.
Onofrey plans to study architecture at the University of Washington after graduation. Her achievement provides an exciting opportunity to showcase her talent and dedication on a national stage.
