10/3 HSD Parent Email: Family Reminders and Event Previews
Dear Parents:We wanted to be sure that you saw these timely reminders. Plus we wanted to get in another trial of our new parent notification system before we have our first inclement weather day. As a result, you are receiving this email! Last Thursday’s test seemed to go fairly well. Only 36 families indicated that they did not receive the test text, email, and phone message. We will keep at it until everyone hears from us who wants to hear from us! Don’t forget: HSD texts will originate from 98900.Here are three reminders:Last call for Chromebook assuranceFree/Reduced Meal Program application deadline approachingFacilities Planning Committee Survey #4 coming soonand Three “Save the Dates”: Community tour, Booster events, and community concertPlease know we are trying to abbreviate our messaging to families. It’s more of a heads up: Be on the lookout for the latest FPC Survey over the next few days. This survey, which will be emailed out to HSD families and posted to social media, will ask for community input on project proposals and cost estimates. The committee will use this information in finalizing its recommendation to the HSD School Board later this fall.Three “Save the Date” announcements:HSD Community Tour Set for Fri. More information will be revealed in the next HSD News Round Up!Please fill out FPC Survey #4 by Wednesday, Oct. 16.After reviewing 540 responses to district-wide surveys this year, the Facilities Planning Committee (FPC) conducted extensive research with industry experts to propose facilities solutions and their cost. Once again, the FPC is seeking your input on the following 5 key improvements that would cost an estimated $44/month for the average owner of a $750,000 home in Hockinson:Build a Second Elementary School to address overcrowding at HHES, the largest elementary school by student population in Clark County.Safety Improvements & Remodeling at HHES, improving lockdown functionality at all campuses. There is currently no capability to display emergency messages in classrooms or automatically secure exterior doors during a lockdown at HHES. Replace Track & Install Synthetic Turf Field at HHS: A multi-use, synthetic turf playing field and track would cut maintenance expenses while expanding year-round student and community use. Add Job Readiness Education Building & Install Classroom Emergency Messaging System at HHS: This building - a partnership with industry donors - would be a hands-on classroom space for Career & Technical Education classes. The messaging system would equalize safety resources across all Hockinson schools.Construct a Covered Play Area at HMS to shield our middle school students from the weather during recess and before and after school activities.Your participation in surveys like this one is at the heart of the committee’s process as it develops facility solutions that are both cost-effective and meet current and future needs.
