We are getting some questions about whether the HSD is on a normal schedule and we want to confirm that all Hockinson schools are on a normal schedule today, 12/18.
Dear HSD Community:
Following last night’s wind storm, we continue to assess conditions across the district.
As of this afternoon:
- HHES has no power
- HMS has power
- HHS has no power
- District Office and Tech Building has power
After school activities at all Hockinson schools, including high school athletic practices, have been canceled. HHS Boys Basketball and Swimming are competing tonight at Woodland HS and Mark Morris HS, respectively.
A decision about school for tomorrow has not been made yet. We will evaluate conditions early tomorrow morning and communicate with families as soon as a decision is finalized. We will need each school site to have power and network access in order to operate safely.
Thank you to Clark Public Utilities crews for their continuing efforts to restore power to all Hockinson homes and HSD campuses. Thanks, too, for your patience and understanding that student and staff safety is our top priority in evaluating when to re-open our schools.
Steve Marshall
Superintendent

2 Hr. Late Start
Today, Wednesday, Dec 17, the Hockinson School District is on a 2 hr. Late Start due to lack of power and road debris.
All bus routes will operate on a 2 hr late pick up schedule with no AM service for Cascadia Tech and AM Preschool.
We will update you should power not get restored in a timely manner.
Happy Holidays, HSD Families! The December 12 holiday edition of the HSD News Round-Up highlights seasonal news and upcoming events from across the district, including HHS's production of Elf the Musical Jr., PWT's annual Donuts with Santa celebration, holiday concerts, and more!
Read it here.
All HHES buses will be running approximately 20 minutes late today Thursday, Dec. 11. We regret that transportation for a field trip fell behind schedule. This delay will likely impact all HSD bus riders K-12.
We will send out additional updates should these delays change or if there is any other news relating to this issue.
We apologize for this inconvenience.

Hockinson's 7th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is TONIGHT and everyone is invited. HMS Band students, led by band director Jennifer Ritenburgh, will perform holiday songs beginning from 6-6:30 pm. The community tree will then be illuminated by - who else? - Santa Claus at 6:30 pm. Special thanks to Hockinson Community Church, the Hockinson Main St. Team, Fire District 3, and Chartwells for partnering with the HSD to continue this holiday tradition.
The tree lighting will take place in between Hockinson Community Church and the Hockinson Community Center, 15916 NE 182nd Ave.
For the first time in school history, the HHS Boys Wrestling Team defeated Mark Morris HS from Longview. At last night's home HHS-MMHS dual meet, the Hawks won 10 of 14 matches (!) to come out on top of the Monarchs by a final team score of 55-23.
Congratulations, too, to HHS Girls Wrestling Team for their 51-18 home victory over Stevenson HS. Winners included Zowie Lehecka, Amelia Hansen, Olivia Archuleta, Ashlyn McKay, Teagan Trenda, Elliana De La Rocha, and Faith Sjothun.
Big thanks to Head Coach Brandon Redeau, his coaching staff, all athletes, fans, and the HHS Drumline for putting Hawk Pride on full display! Thanks, too, to the Hockinson community. Sports like wrestling are funded by local levy dollars.

As we transition to autumn and winter, I want to remind families and staff of our inclement weather procedures to keep everyone safe.
In the event of inclement weather conditions, your family can expect to receive communications from HSD as early as possible. Inclement weather announcements will be delivered to families through the HSD App, text message, and phone call. Updates will also be posted to our website and social media and shared with local news outlets.
Parents, we encourage you to take this opportunity to update your contact information in Skyward Family Access if it has changed in the past year. Please download the Hockinson School District mobile app, available on Apple and Android, for up-to-date school announcements.
Inclement weather decisions are based on the condition of area roads and weather prediction models. We assess whether those conditions pose a risk to the safe transportation of our students and staff when making a decision. Depending on the timing of the weather and road conditions, the HSD may announce bus snow routes, a 2-hour late start, an early release, or a school closure.
Bus snow route information is available on our busing Information page.
What does a 2-hour late start mean for families?
In the event of a late 2-hour start, bus pick-up schedules and classes will occur two hours later than normal. There will be no HHS preschool. There are no before-school activities during a two-hour late start and no busing to Cascadia Technical Academy (HHS students). Please see your school’s website for their two-hour late start schedules. If it is Wednesday, HSD schools will remain on the one hour early release schedule.
What does a school closure mean for families?
In the event of a school closure, all classes are cancelled. All before-school and after-school activities will also be canceled. Should the Hockinson area experience inclement weather during the school day and buses cannot safely transport students home, students will be kept at school until safe transportation can be arranged.

Congratulations to the Hockinson High School Girls Soccer Team, which finished 4th at the 2025 State Soccer Tournament in Federal Way, WA today.
Although the girls fell to Anacortes 0-2, they were recognized by organizers for their teamwork, grit, and sportsmanship. At the end of the game, Junior Audrey Armstrong was presented with a sportsmanship medallion for her exemplary conduct.
63 schools across the state make up 2A classification. So it is a special accomplishment to place in the final four.
With their talent, collective attitude, and success, the girls represented the best of Hockinson. Way to go, Hawks!
The team is coached by Tony Ayala and Madison Kellogg.

Romero, who last week won 2A District Swim Titles in the 50 freestyle (25.63 seconds) and 100 freestyle (56.05), has been recognized for her accomplishments this season, including Swimmer of the Meet at the Nov. 8 2A District Swim Meet and The Columbian's Athlete of the Week.
The HHS Swim Program received another honor at the State Meet. Michelle Jacobs-Brown was named the 2A/1A Coach of the Year by the Washington State Swim Coaches Association. Jacobs-Brown is the Head Coach of the Hockinson Cooperative Swim Program, which serves six other area high schools.
Soccer Soars to Semi Finals
The 2025 HHS Girls Soccer Team is headed to the State Soccer Semi Finals following their 1-0 victory over Sehome HS today. Seniors Brooke Roberts and Bridget Brennan combined on a goal off a free kick early in the game and the Hawks' defense shut down Sehome for the remainder of the game to secure the win.
While HHS Girls Soccer has qualified for state competition every year since 2018*, this is only the third time a team has advanced to the semifinals.
HHS will face West Valley of Spokane this Friday, Nov. 21 at 1:00 pm at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
Way to go, girls! Go Hawks!
* Although the Hawks were undefeated in regular season, there was no post-season in Fall 2020

Following it's win over Port Angeles HS on Wednesday, Girls Soccer will play Sehome HS at 1 pm tomorrow (Sat. Nov. 15) at Civic Field in Bellingham, WA.
Girls Swimmers will be competing at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA throughout today and tomorrow.
Best of luck to our state qualifiers. Go Hawks! You can find more information on both tournaments at
https://www.wiaa.com/state/

Next up, HHS (Seeded #6) plays Sehome HS, the #3 seed, in Bellingham, WA on Friday, Nov. 14 or Saturday, Nov. 15. We will update this post once decided.
This is a single elimination tournament so the season is over for the losing team. However, the winning team would advance to the semifinals, playing the winner of Cedarcrest v West Valley at Federal Way Memorial Stadium on Friday, Nov. 21.
Fans can watch games online at https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/associations/wiaa-wa/soccer
Good luck, girls! Go Hawks!

HHS fans can purchase tickets at the game or online here: https://gofan.co/app/school/WA86275?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=WA_wiaa.
Come out and cheer our girls to victory. Go Hawks!
HSD students and staff honored the service and sacrifices of veterans today because tomorrow - Tuesday, Nov. 11 - the Hockinson School District will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.
We look forward to seeing our students and families when we resume classes on Wednesday.
